October 10, 2016 – Umatilla, Florida – The Groundbreaking Ceremony for Umatilla’s Water Treatment Plant Expansion was held on Monday, October 10th to commemorate the start of construction.
The project will improve and upgrade the existing facility to accommodate not only the current demands but also with an eye towards anticipated projected growth and demand on the water system. Improvements include a new ground storage tank, addition of an altitude valve to the existing elevated storage tank, replacement of 3 vertical turbine can pumps with 3 new split case horizontal pumps, replacement of the existing fluoride and chlorine chemical feed systems. Modifications to the existing building will be made to accommodate the electrical and control system.
Robert Ern, P.E. of Booth, Ern, Straughan & Hiott, Inc. (BESH) is the Engineer of Record. Mr. Ern has a solid track record in water utility projects in and around Lake County and has spearheaded many similar projects. The project is expected to be completed in June, 2017.
